Directions to John's Carpet House
For the summer of 2007, the schedule will be every Sunday from 4pm til dark until the end of September. Here is a link to Google Maps and the address: 2133 Frederick St Detroit, MI 48211 The festival actually occurs in a field across the street from where John used to live, so this is actually the address of a field. If you can get to the Detroit Institute of Arts, then you will find it pretty easy to follow Warren to St Aubin to Frederick and the Carpet House.  If you have any questions, call Pete Barrow at (313) 948-5911

Dr CC, a.k.a. Leslie Cheateum Jr., was born in Alabama and moved to Detroit in 1973.  He drove a HiLo in a plant.

He first sang in a Baptist church when he was 7 years old and has been singing ever since.   His first band was STW JB’s .  He was also in Mr Willie B Warren’s and Yansens Blues Band

He lead a very successful band called “The Upsetters”.  The Upsetters were made up of:

   Lady T       Vocals
   Doc CC      Vocals
   Tim      Drummer
   Joe Mitchell      Guitar
   Jesse Blaze      Guitar
   Wild Man Steve   Guitar
   Al      Horns
   Dion      Keyboard
   Ray      Bass

Dr CC said, “It was a real tight band that was like family.  When Tim died we were too broken up to continue and the band broke up.”

With his current band, he performs songs by Johnny Taylor, Tyrone Davis, Willie Clayton, Marvin Cease, Bobby Blue Band, B.B. King, Little Milton.  But he is very versatile, also do R&B, Motown, top 40, jazz, pretty much anything except rap.

“Music has always been my passion from childhood.  Always wanted to be in the lime light.   I enjoy making people happy, doing my show.  I am a ladies man.  I always sing to the ladies out in the audience.  ….  I would like to say to all my fans out there that I love you, thank you!  If there was no you there would be no me.”

He has played with the greats:

          Willie B Warren
          Danny Blue
          Sassy Wilson
          Larry
          Little Jr. Kennedy
          Lady T

He has played with Mr Bo, Butler Twins, YardDog Jones.  He has played at Hart Plaza, Chene Park …  last night he played to 300 people at the Crown Plaza on Merriman Rd.   “1996 was one of the best times of his life playing the Pavilion Center with Willie Clayton and Charles Wilson.”

“Being in music I have learned one thing.  There are a lot of heart aches, especially with woman.”  He shook his head and continued, “You can’t have a jealous woman and be out front.”

Look out for Dr. CC’s first CD coming out soon.  He is still throwing around titles but he might call it “My Life in the Music Business”.  “We will bring the whole band in and do it all at once in the studio.”

He is currently playing Al’s Olympia Lounge every Friday at Grand River and McGraw.  He has been playing there every Friday for 9 years.

To book his band call (313) 204-1341 or (313) 629-2341
