Directions to John's Carpet House
For the summer of 2007, the schedule will be every Sunday from 4pm til dark until the end of September. Here is a link to Google Maps and the address: 2133 Frederick St Detroit, MI 48211 The festival actually occurs in a field across the street from where John used to live, so this is actually the address of a field. If you can get to the Detroit Institute of Arts, then you will find it pretty easy to follow Warren to St Aubin to Frederick and the Carpet House.  If you have any questions, call Pete Barrow at (313) 948-5911

Another great jam!  But will the weather hold for one more?   I don't know.

I was real glad I wore a heavy shirt and a jacket.

Last weekend was cooler and I sat on the grass in front of the stage.  It was funny that people are so well trained that no one sits in front of the stage even where it is overcast and there is no sun.   The cars and vans are ringed around the front of the jamming area leaving this huge open area in front.  Normally no one sits there because they would bake in the sun.  Ha!  But I say there, enjoying a beer.  Occasionally people would be dancing around me.  Party on, party on!

We had some great musicians, some of whom I never saw before, some great soul singers.  Willie Willie played base.  Normally he plays keyboards.  Mitchell played guitar, filling in Hendrix riffs in between songs as he always does.   Guitar Bernie played the whole time.  His bum knee had had some therapy and was a lot better.  And as for the rest, well, I guess I had so much fun talking to people, I don't remember.   I saw Blair.  Blair is the great Urban Folk singer guitarist.  Urban Folk is a genre he invented for himself.  It was his first time there, but he arrived after dark and only saw people picking up their equipment.

Pete officiated as always, and made everyone feel like they were in a barbecue in their own back yard with their closest 400 friends.
