Directions to John's Carpet House
For the summer of 2007, the schedule will be every Sunday from 4pm til dark until the end of September. Here is a link to Google Maps and the address: 2133 Frederick St Detroit, MI 48211 The festival actually occurs in a field across the street from where John used to live, so this is actually the address of a field. If you can get to the Detroit Institute of Arts, then you will find it pretty easy to follow Warren to St Aubin to Frederick and the Carpet House.  If you have any questions, call Pete Barrow at (313) 948-5911

The weather cooperated and we had another perfect Carpet House Jam.

It was  perfect weather for a jam in a field under a tree!  I'm guessing there were 500 people, maybe 1,000  it's had to tell.  The cars were ringed two deep around the field and the tree under which the musians play.  There were a few grills with lazy blue smoke drifting from them.  The organiser and master of cerimonies, Pete, as always made everyone feel like they were part of his extended family.  Pete cut the grass, put the gas in the generator, put the roll of toilet paper in the outhouse, and MC'd all afternoon.  Pete also has his small army of folks to help, but Pete is the great organizer.  If you need help with an event, call Pete!

Harmonica Shaw showed up, and he organized the Harmonica Army.  He got everyone playing.  Kenny Miller sang, and a bunch of other people sang as well.  Kenny Mitchell was feeling frisky and  played the guitar while laying flat on his back.

Large crowds of people were dancing.

It's the kind of day were you just stand there, listen to the music, make a few new friends, and just plain feel good.
